Dead Ethernet Port??

Hi, I seem to be having a problem with my ethernet port. I have a Dell Dimension desktop E520 running on vista, network adapter says it is Intel 82562V 10/100 Platform LAN connect. Last night there was a lightning storm and this morning when I went to turn on my computer it was frozen. When I restarted my computer I could not get online and I noticed the PC activity light was not on the modem, all the other lights were. I tried power cycling/rebooting many times it didn't work. I also noticed when I put the ethernet cable in the back of my computer it didn't light up like it usually does. I tried switching the ethernet cables, no luck. So I hooked up my laptop  which I am on now and was able to get online. I tried calling my ISP, they thought maybe it was a modem problem, so I switched out the modem, but still the same thing. When I go to my device manager it says the device is working properly. Is there anything I can do, maybe uninstall the driver and reinstall it? or is the port dead and I need to get it replaced? or is there some kind of adapter I can buy instead. I don't know much about this kind of thing, Any help would be appreciated.

you can try uninstalling and reinstalling your nic adapters but since you do not see any status or activity lights I would bet the port is gone. Won't hurt to try the reinstall.

The Nic is part of the motherboard and as such cannot be replaced. Your only options would be to buy either a plug in PCI card 10/100 ethernet adapter or a usb version. both would provide the same performance and it would only be a matter of if you want to open the case and install the card or just plug the adapter into a USB port on the back.
