thank you so very much for your help. I suppose it might not be worth it to get high speed for broadband if it's going to be another $30 charge per mo? I very much appreciate your help, tho'.
AOL 9.0 does not in itself mean that you can connect at broadband speeds, it only supports broadband when you have the correct hardware. You need a broadband modem to handle the broadband signal, your line converted to broadband and an upgrade to a broadband account.
Contact AOL and say that you want broadband suport. (It's not free)
Not normal to get a broadband modem, unless you ordered one. You will still need to contact AOL to upgrade to a broadband service, you need to subscribe to a broadband supplier to get the phone line converted. For AOL, who seem to do things in their own way, it's probably better to get them to supply the modem when you order broadband (it may be free, depends on current offers). Any other ISP I would say just buy a broadband modem.
AOL in the USA are currently ofering broadband free for 50 days as a trial.
I hate to do this, really I do but you need to contact AOL for help here.
The reason I hate to do it is because AOL has the worst service of any technical company in the world. A friend of mine had problems once and called them. He wrote down what they said and then called me to ask about what they said. I'm not making this up, somebody there told him to call Compaq and find out how to get more IRQ's because he was out.
Wait, if there is any other provider in your area, call them, don't call AOL. I think I would rather talk to the IRS than deal with their support again.
I agree that AOL support is often less than impressive (I'm being polite). I was once told that my customer had the wrong type of wire for his broadband connection.
I would normally recommend anyone other than AOL but as he is using AOL then if he wants AOL broadband then he needs to contact AOL.
