Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 Wireless Problems

Hi, my story begins like this. Ever since I purchased this laptop I have been having connection issues with connecting to my HOME wifi. I am able to connect to my neighbors wifi no problem. Sometimes I am able to connect for a period of time and then my connection will disconnect and reconnect and disconnect and reconnect in a circle. Essentially I get limited access then no internet access to connected to not connected. I have contacted Dell Support couple times now, and on the first occasion I was prompted to do a system restore which temporarily fixed the problem. Yesterday I talked with Dell Support again and their solution did not fix my problem. They said everything on the hardware side was good and that it might be a software problem. We did a DELL connect session in which the representative proceeded to try and attempt to fix the problem by simply deleting the wireless profiles (which did nothing to fix it) and changing some key values in the registry to 20 from 12000. It was something about waitlist or something. I have no clue. Anyways the representative told me this would fix my problem and he told me to connect my ethernet cable. I was able to connect then through wifi and I hung up with the representative. Now I am having the issue again so I thought upgrading to windows 8 PRO would fix the problem, apparently not. Please help me fix this I need to be able to do my homework online for college etc.

Zoeb,

Checking to see if you installed the chipset drivers first. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Let's first try...

Hit the Windows Key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, network and sharing center. Click on your connection, then click on properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Have your settings match mine.

I see on Intel's website, they're working on drivers for this adapter.

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Click on advanced. Look and see if this adapter has antenna diversity. If it does, try chaning it from Auto to Aux.

Also see if your adapter has this setting.

Go to start > device manager > advanced > bandwidth capability > change to 20/40mhz

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Zoeb,

The Intel® Centrino Wireless-N 2230 WLAN/BT Half Mini-Card connects on 2.4GHz ONLY.

You can try Auto to see if your connection speed increases.

Ok, I followed the following steps and installed all the latest drivers. I got errors on the intel downloads as I think as you mentioned they were still updating them.

I did not have bandwith capabality but rather I had channel width for band 2.4 and its set to 20mhz. Should i change it to auto?

When I ran the troubleshooter, it said

1) WIFI does not have a proper IP configuration

2) A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken ( I dont use an ethernet cable, I connect with the WifI)

I am confused by 5.0 GHZ. I understand my wireless adapter is 2.4 GHz. Is my wifi connection a 5.0 GHz?

Zoeb,

Wireless a/b/g use 2.4GHz

Wireless N can use 2.4GHz or 5.0Ghz. It depends on your adapter and your wireless router.

Some wireless N routers work on 5.0GHz ONLY and some are dual band routers and work with both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia explains it but may seem confusing to some people.

A wireless N router can produce faster connection speeds. The people that use the 5.0 band get the fastest speeds. The Wireless N that use 2.4GHz, use dual streams to get a similar result.

A wired connection will always get the fastest speeds and is the reason if you're a gamer, to have a wired connection.

Ok I understand about the different Ghz. What I can't still do is connect to my home network. I have the Netgear wireless n-150 router WNR1000 v2. How do I go on about fixing my wifi issues so that I can successfully connect to my home network.I have followed all the instructions posted, but still I can not connect to my HOME wifi. I am not having problems connecting to other peoples wifis, and the other laptops in the house are succesfully connecting to my HOME wifi. Please help me Rick, I really need my connection to be fixed.

Thanks

Zoeb,

Your router works on 2.4GHz, so try using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings

The WPS does not agree with all adapters.

I don't use the firewall on my router, I use the firewall on my computer(s).

Make sure to read the notation about Netgear.

Your virus program and firewall can also block communications.

I just received my Inspiron 15r se today, and was having all kinds of connection problems with windows 8, but they are now resolved.

My wireless network was setup with WEP authentication. When I changed that to WPA2-AES on my router (as well as on the laptop) i was able to connect and stay connected with zero problems.

If you haven't tried this yet give it a go, it worked for me.
