dell inspiron 2200

i have a laptop that i temporarily ran linux on, because i was missing the original windows disks.

i found dell install disks and put windows back on it. i downloaded all dell drivers and installed. checked the device manager and the wifi card is detected and driver installed.

when i try to connect to wireless networks, nothing shows up. the icon, in the tray, for wireless connections shows a red x through it. when i check the connection, it is enabled, but still no wireless networks are detected.

any ideas?

just an update. it appears that if i stand right under the wireless router, it connects.

i mean right under it.

how can the signal be so weak, when the other laptop next to it has full signal.

You don't say which wireless network adapter you have, but if it is an Internal MIni PCI card, it sounds like the antenna wires are not connected.

where is the card located, how would i check to see if the antenna is connected. i wonder if this is why i just spent two weeks trying to get wifi working under ubuntu.
