That message means that window is not managing your wireless adpater. If you want windows to manage the adapter then you need to allow it to. The first time you use it to connect to your network if you are running any wireless security settings you will need to set those
I followed through with the instructions completey, but still nothing. I allowed the utility to manage the wireless connection, but nothing has changed. It's same as before I began the troubleshooting procedure. It seems the wireless connection can't find the IP address. I'm not sure what else I can do. The problem occured less than two weeks ago, but I can't think of anything that might have occured during that period that could've led to this problem. I can connect to the internet with my Dell Dimension 3000, but not the wireless lap top. I have Norton security installed on it; I'm pretty sure it's not the result of malware. Do you have any idea how can remedy this problem?
Thanks PudgyOne, but I don't think your link will help. I don't have Windows Vista; I have Windows XP. Also, it was working just fine up until two weeks ago. I can't figure out what might have changed.

annihisin,
Maybe this will help.
Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

my problem was with an incompatible firewall (Symantec). Try disabling the firewall first. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the firewall.
