Dell Inspiron Will Not Start

Hey all, I purchased a Dell Inspiron (Windows Vista Home Premium) for my little sister last Christmas and up until now it has worked flawlessly. However, just a few days ago the computer abruptly refused to start. It boots up normally but once it gets to the desktop its like a black screen is covering everything up. I can see the mouse cursor, but everything else is black. There are no icons, taskbars, or anything. This happens in both Normal Mode and Safe Mode. Occassionaly I will get the error message:

Wireless Configuration

Notification: dll has not been registered, program will not work correctly.

This makes no sense, I know her laptop has Wireless Capabalities, as far as I know they are not activated and neither she nor I have tried to use the wireless connection. What can I do? I cannot access the computer so I can't change any of the settings. Is there anything in the BIOS that I can alter to force the computer to boot up? Thanks in advance!

timcallahan90,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If there is nothing on the screen and you cannot get into safe mode you will have to either Boot up and Press F8 to restore the system if your computer has this option or you will have to Format and Reinstall Windows.

Hi

I think I am facing the same problem as well. I have Windows 7 loaded on my Dell laptop which I bought last November.

Could you tell me how I could restore my system since I am not being able to log-in to Windows or go to "My Computer". I get the "Windows is loading icon" and then a black screen with just the cursor. Will I lose my personal data if I restore the system?

Kind Regards,

Harsh

harsh,

What computer model do you have? To Restore the system to factory condition you would boot the computer and press the F8 key after the bios screen. You would then choose Repair Your Computer.

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 1440. While booting the computer it does not give me the option of pressing F8. When I went to the BIOS Screen, it just gives me system information like the configuration of the computer and no option to do a system restore or format the computer.
