dell latitude e6540 wireless problem with lid closed

Question

I have been supplied with a dell latitude e6540 with an annoying problem.

My wireless connection works solidly with the lid up... 8Mbps. If I put the lid down, it drops to .1 Mbps.

I only started noticing this because I switched to an external monitor.

My power settings when the lid is down is to change nothing.

What's going on?

I should add that my power settings are such that when the lid is closed they are not to do anything.

I have the same exact issue and just got this laptop today.  Does anyone know of a fix??
