If you are able to view wireless networks  that are in range, but are not connecting, then it sounds like you don't have the connection configured correctly.

How do I correct the connection configuration?  Please outline steps to follow.

The first step is to know how wireless on your router is configured.  What is the SSID (the wireless network name, which is different from the Microsoft Network or Domain name)?  Are you using encryption?  If so, what type of encryption and what is the encryption key?  Is the router configured to use MAC address filtering to only allow specific hardware to connect?  If so, has the MAC address for your system been added?

Assuming you are using WinXP on your mini, View Available Networks, select your network and click connect.  Then provide the encryption key if one is needed.  I'm not familiar with wireless in Linux, however, if you got the mini with Ubuntu there are a number of useful threads in the Dell portion of the Ubuntu forums for getting wireless to work.
