dell notebook software?

Dear Friends,
Recently, I was downloading the software for my notebook, and I notice that there was a listing for "Dell Notebook Software". It's a large download, and when I ran it, it left no icon to click and nothing to tell me what that 50 megs of code was doing...
I have since removed it, but I still don't know what that software does.
What is the "Dell Notebook Software", and why should I use it?
thanks,

You don't say which model computer you have, but in general if you peruse the download page for the software you downloaded, there is usually an explanation for what the software does.  For example, for the Inspiron 5100, the download page at - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_5100&category=0&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3601&devlib=7
 gives a description.

if you're using a pentium m cpu then you'll definitely need it for proper speedstep functioning of your cpu.
