Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Card

I recently upgraded to Vista on my Inspiron E1705, and I've started receiving this message constantly: "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available." This message always appears, and I can't even start my Wireless Utility. Any suggestions on how to resolve the issue? Thank you.

Try uploading the most recent driver from the website:

Make sure you select the driver pertinent to your geographical location.

Okay, I have to ask, which WLAN 1390 driver did you install? I don't know where you are geographically located. If you are in the U.S., then you will need to install File # R151522.exe, if you are in Japan then you'll need File # R151521.exe, anywhere other than U.S. or Japan and you'll need File # R151520.exe. We need to be clear on this from the start or we could wind up "chasing our tails" trying to fix this problem...

Okay, I downloaded the most recent driver, but now when I try to start the Dell WLAN Utility, it comes up really slow and doesn't allow me to do anything at all.

I went back and downloaded the R151522 driver. But I'm still receiving the error message from before, "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Controller stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly." I'm on a Inspiron E1705 with Vista Home Premium.

Do you have the Vista Upgrade CD? When you upgraded your system to Vista, did you re-install the Chipset and Notebook System software for Vista, as well?

Vista NSS

Vista Chipset

Try installing these, as well?

I reinstalled the Chipset and Notebook system software. I was able to find the following details within that error message from before: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: bcmwltry.exe Application version: 4.102.15.61 The recent driver for the Dell WLAN 1390 is from 12/19/2006, version 4.102.15.61. Not sure where else to go from here. I might just call Dell later on for more information.

Again, do you have the Vista upgrade CD? This problem sounds like it's a result of your upgrading to Vista.
Also, noticed there is a BIOS update for your system A09 7/5/2007 see if you need to update the BIOS version?

I don't have the upgrade CD on me at the moment. But I was able to install another driver over that, the Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter driver. The message went away, so I might just stick with it. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
