I'm not familiar with the Wireless 3300 server, Which product line is this?  Did you try the null password (no password) or admin?  If you have the user's guide (which I could look up if I knew the product line), it would probably tell you what the default password is.  If someone changed the default password, is there a reset button on this model that would reset all settings to their defaut values?

Hey Steve,

Thanks for showing an interest.  It's the Dell Wireless 3300, which is a print server.  Normally, like routers and such, there is a standard popup, that requires the user name and password.  For instance, on a Netgear router, this info is necessary to access the configuration file.  Along with being printed on the bottom of the router and included in the installation instructions, is the default user name and password, which is, "admin" and "password".  Unfortunately, there is nothing at all about this in the paperwork provided with the server.  It has a standard multi-language sheet to install and a thick manual of policies and procedures about Dell, but nothing about this unit.  Since this equipment does not have a service tag number, there's no way to access the technical chat line.  My network has static IPs for everything, partcularly because I receive transmissions every evening to specific equipment, which must reserve that IP.  It is absolutely necessary to be able to change the server's IP.  You can't even download any firmware upgrades without the user name and password.  Oh, one other thing.  There's no reset on this.  Usually, a recessed switch is available on the back and yes, you would assume that by resetting, the default would return, whatever that might be.

Thanks...Vince

Thanks Steve,

I appreciate it but that site won't do it.  The Wireless 3300 server isn't on the list.  Selecting any of the other choices just leads back to the general catagories and from there, to never never land.  It is very difficult to believe that pertinent information was left out of this and can't be retrieved easily.    Thanks for your help, though.

The site I sent you to goes to a document entitled -

How do I manually configure the Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 when the Setup Wizard Connection Failed window appears?

It doesn't matter what you choose in the box that comes up, just click on Submit twice and it will get you there.  (It is the dumb way that the Dell Journals work these days - it is not obvious that you will arrive at the correct document until you get there).

Thank you...I found it.  It doesn't mention anything about a user name or password.  Too bad.  There is one line, in the help files, that mentions that, if you're going to change the IP, you would be prompted for a user name and password, if the server has one.  That's the kind of rocket science wording I like to see.  So vague you'd need to have your fog lights on.
I appreciate your assistance on this, Steve, but I'm not sure this is going to be solved.  For a $100, it could have been a lot better.
Case in point.  The 3300 was on before my #3 PC came on thus acquiring 192.168.1.4, which is the static IP of the PC.  The result, of course, was an IP conflict.  Since I can control the PC, but not the 3300, which do you think is going to be returned.
There is one thing, though.  There has to have been someone else that encountered this problem besides me.

Thanks...Vince

PS - Here's the final solution, although it's backdoor.  I've configured my router to issue IP addresses above 192.168.1.35 for DHCP.  Since I can't alter the configuration of the Dell 3300, I'll force it to use an IP that's well above my other equipment.  Actually, I always set the printers and servers in the .30  to .39 range.  I've tested this and it works.  Of course, I'll have to keep the unit here.  I wouldn't ever consider installing one of these at a customer's site.  I'll continue to use the D-Link DP-G310, which I might add, is listed $20 less than the 3300 and I get them for less than that.  I appreciate your time and assistance, Steve.
