Dell XPS - problems with Network adaptor - both wireless and wired

I am having trouble with both my wireless and wired connections.  I am using a Dell Inspiron XPS with a wirless WLAN 1350 mini-pic card, and a broadcom 570x gigabit integrated controller.  When I plug a cat5 cable in, it acts as if it isn't there, or something.  I can not connect to the internet at all.  Also, my wireless card can detect my linksys wireless-G with an excellent signal, but nothing there either.  With both devices connected to the router, runing ipconfig yields:

When I try to renew, this is what it says:

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

The broadcom device passes all diagnostics etsts using the broadcom advanced control suite, but again, I have no connection to the internet.  No IP.  This is not a problem with my router, as I have multiple other devices connected to the router which are functioning perfectly.  So, I do not know what the problem is.  I believe it is hardware oriented, but the solution evades me.  Please help!

Using system restore fixed the problem.  Don't know what I changed, but must have been something.  Handy feature, that is.
