Your Netgear instructions should be on the disk that came with the router. Set up the router using the Netgear disk in your desktop computer. Put the disk in that computer and read the instructions. Basically, you should connect the desktop to the router using an ethernet cable. You don't need a wireless connection for a desktop. The set up is in this order--Incoming cable or dsl connected to the cable or dsl modem, modem connects to the wireless router's modem port, desktop's network card connects to one of the ethernet ports on the router. If Netgear site doesn't have instructions, visit the Linksys site. Important--Follow the directions to set up security for your wireless router. Check with Vonage for instructions about that connection.

Hi,

I guess you will have to first connect the destop with the router as per the instructions in the CD which came along with the router and then setup a wireless connection on your laptop to go onto the internet. To setup the router just follow the steps in the wizard that runs when you insert the CD in your desktop.

In addition to what Mary said...

Here were the instructions I had when I had my Netgear Router.

Manual instructions

Logging in(first time)

1. Connect the modem into the internet/wan port of the router. (The port that is closest to the antenna.)
2. Connect your computer into any of the lan ports on the router.
3. Plug the power cable into the router.
4. You should see 3 lights on the router (power, internet and lan connection).
5. Now, take out the power cable from the router and from the modem also. And plug the power back to the router, just to the router.
6. You should see 2 lights on the router (power and lan connection).
7. Open Internet explorer and in the address box type http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm and hit enter.
8. user name is:admin / password is: password

Recommended Wireless Router Settings

If you need to, the setup disk can walk you through the process. If you do NOT have the Netgear disk, you can download the image from Netgear and burn it to a disk.
