Desperate for help!
I have an Inspiron 6400 laptop with Windows XP and since it has come back from shop that replaced the screen I cannot connect to the Internet. Just get the greyed out monitor logo with red cross saying 'network cable unplugged'. The shop is in another part of the country (was holidaying) so cannot go back to them.
I use BT Total Broadband with a Homehub 2 but even using the ethernet cable my laptop cannot connect. I don't know if the wireless card needs replacing or the driver updating will help but after spending hours looking for a driver update I am just getting more and more confused.
It is a Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini-PCI Card (for Dual-Core Processors). I am not very confident in self diagnostics so am in desperate need of help as I cannot do without the laptop.
Many thanks,
Ruth

I suspect that the laptop was not put back properly after the repair. It's not a driver issue.
here's a link to what was involved; not trivial http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/SYSTEMS/ins6400/en/sm/display.htm

Well, many thanks IEEE488, I think perhaps you have identified the problem. I did take the laptop to a computer shop where I was on holiday, but three days later the screen failed again and it had to be returned. Also I had a special hard screen when I purchased from Dell and the shop have installed an ordinarly soft lcd screen but I was so grateful to get my laptop back I didn't bother. I am no longer near the shop, but will contact them although I won't hold my breath.
I much appreciate your reply, thankyou.
