Hi,

The number of Wireless or Ethernet adapters doesn’t affect the upload and download speed of internet. There are various other factors affecting the speed, for example the number of applications that are running on the system at the same time or if the firmware of the modem or router is not updated.

Also, speed is influenced by the number of computers (or other devices) that shares your Internet connection.

You can check the internet speed of you system by using the following link: http://bit.ly/1WpLhS

Meanwhile, you may also call your Internet Service Provider to check the speed.

Thanks and Regards

Used speedtest.net = Download speed 0.89 Mbps. Very slightly better than dial-up.

Even though the wireless adapter is supposedly working properly, it is poor at receiving a signal from the wireless modem that works fine with other computers that I have connected wirelessly. I would prefer to have a different wireless adapter. I am disappointed that this is the one that came preinstalled in my new computer.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I would suggest you to check the speed of the wireless card in a different hotspot.

Please reply with the results.

Thanks and Regards

Other speed check sites produce the same results. I’m just going to have an independent computer repair tech fix my 6 month old Dell. There is nothing wrong with the wireless modem or internet connection at our home. Other wireless computers connect just fine. It’s either a configuration problem or a defective wireless card. I am not going to pay $250 for Dell support to fix one problem. For a bit more than that I could just buy a new computer. This was not at all helpful.

Hi,

I regret the inconvenience caused due to this issue. I would suggest you to change the channel number of the WLAN card to 6 or 11 and test. Click on Start, type Device Manager and click on Network Adapter, choose the WLAN card and right click on it, open the Properties window and select Advanced tab, on this you will find a list of options, select Channel and change it.

Have you performed any other troubleshooting steps on your own to troubleshoot the issue? If yes please mention.

Meanwhile, I would request you to provide me with the system Service Tag, present BIOS version and the driver version of the WLAN card in a private message.

To check the present BIOS version, shut down system and once you restart keep tapping F2 key. On the BIOS screen you will find the present BIOS version.

As for the driver version of the card, once you right click on the WLAN card and select properties, click on Drivers tab and you will find the version.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply to my private message.

Thanks and Regards
Priyanka S

I have also posted this in a private conversation.

In device manager, right clicking on the Dell Wireless 1502 network adapter, properties, advanced tab does not give an option to change channels. These are the options offered:

- 802.11b Preamble

- Network address

- Receive buffers

- Scan valid interval

- Transmit buffers

I am able to change channel of the wireless DSL modem, however.

I have checked to make sure the antenna on the adapter are sufficiently tight, and tried repositioning the antenna to see if that made any difference. It did not. I have also run the Dell PC checkup diagnostic utility, which showed no hardware problems.
