Dial-up connection/ new phone issues?

I have a very strange problem; I wonder if anyone has ever had this same problem? "Sometimes" my dial-up internet will not connect unless I unplug my telephone and sometimes when I am already on-line I will get cut off with the message that there is no connection. My phone is a new, this never happened before with the old phone.
