Dial-up connection

I am running Windows XP home edition on my Dell Dimension 3000. Just recently my dial-up connection has started popping up automatically every time I turn on the computer, and I can't find the switch to turn it off without making it more complicated to log onto the internet. Can anyone out there help me?

Unfortunately you didn't give us much to go on.  It's apparently in your startup (and probably in the systray (lower right)).  It could also be an IM (Instant Messenger) program, again in the startup, that is trying to access the web so it brings up the dial up.

Go back and check the IM's and also your ISP connection and make sure they are not in the startup or systray.  Many have user options to control if they run at startup, put a "quick launch" icon in the systray, etc.

You could also do a "System Restore" back to a date prior to this happening and that may take care of it.  However, any programs or program updates you installed after that date will need to be reinstalled.

One thing you might try is to bring up the Internet Options under the Tools tab, go to Connections, and make certain that you have the option "Never Dial a Connection" activated.  I found that this helped me with this problem.
