Dial-up modem
Re: Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP Home
I have trouble connecting to my dial-up ISP (Netscape Online). It occassionally connects, but mostly just dials, communicates, then hangs up. I get an error message "Please reinstall AOL, Companion Helper file XML missing"
I note that the same modem driver exists in two different files:
C:\Dell\Drivers\Modem and
C:\Drivers\Modem
Modem setting for speed changes itself back to 112k after I have set it to 38.4K
Is this right?
Isd AOL needed?, if so how do I re-install it?
My old desk top works fine, so it's not the ISP.
Someone wrote that it's a V92 modem. What does that imply?

Mike first off contact AOL. Their software is so integrated for your internet connecting that you need to run this past them first.
