You need the drivers from Dell.  The drivers for your system are available by clicking on Technical Support at the top of this page, then following the on-screen info to access the downloads.

The drivers for the Modem presently installed are: Soft V90 Data Fax Modem.

The Dell Technician advised me to download from the Dell support site the following drivers:

Copper.XP

After downloading, when you click the icon, the following message appears:

Drivers for the GVC/CONEXANT PCI Data Fax V.90 Modem

(Copper) Modem version A05

However when I uninstalled the 1st Modem and tried to install the above, Soft V90 Data Fax Modem reappears. I tried a few times (together with the Dell technicians).

Hence, I wonder if these 2 modems are the same??

But, when I read more about the Soft V90 Data Fax Modem it appears to come from Windows not Dell.

The speed is still very slow.

Today, I took the computer to the office and connected it here. Initially the speed was over 50 but dropped back to 31k. It appears that the computer can not hold the speed.

What should I do next?

Many thanks for your help.

That copper is not listed in the downloads for the 4500. All the Connexant's are V.92 modems (that are listed).

Suggest you download and run the Belarc Advisor www.belarc.com that will list all your hardware and software and hopefully will list what the actual modem is in your PC. Then you can get the correct drivers.

Note, there are Connexant's that are "Data/Fax" and Connexant's that are "Data/Fax/Voice" you need to get the correct one.
