different brand router & card??

i have an inspirion b120 and i wanted to get a wireless internet card. after several trips to fry's electronics, we realized i needed an "express card" and not a regular wireless card because who knows why. so my questions is, if i buy one of the 2 brands of express cards, do i need to buy the same brand of router?? the current router i have is a lynksys g-router... i have already heard of the usb adapters too, but not so sure about it (i dont want to hit it on something and mess it up)

If the router and network adapter both say they can use the 802.11b/g protocol, then they should always work as this is a standard.  The only advantage to having the same brand of each is that if you call their Tech Support department with a problem, they can't blame it on the other manufacturer's device (this is usually the first tactic they employ when they can't figure out a problem).
