This problem has gotten way out of hand, and Dell has not been addressing the issue AT ALL right now. It could be that they are trying to figure it out, but they should at least keep us informed. I have spent all Sunday looking for a solution to this without luck until now. Go here to read through all the troubles that everyone is having. Read my post for the solution. Hope this helps.
Digital lines can damage the internal or PCMCIA modem on a portable machine. This is because PBX lines place extra current through the telephone lines so that you can only dial an extension. You will need to find a direct telephone line that is separate from the PBX to avoid receiving this message.
Well, the fact is that most, if not all, of us with the i8600 are not connecting our laptops through a digital line when we get this error message. We are not connected through neither an analogue or digital line. We are using our wireless card for broadband connection, and will only get this error message when using PowerDvD to play our dvd movies. As I have stated above, if we use any other program to play our movies, we don't get the error message.
I understand that Dell will not help or support us on non-Dell softwares. But if Dell ships all their computer hardware products with these programs, then Dell should provide technical support for them. At any rate, I have email BVRP for support, but have not had a reply at all. My i8600 will probably be going back anyways, so good luck to all.
It could be PowerDvD is trying to call home - have you tried going to the Tools - Internet Options - Connections tab while in IE and checking the "Never dial a connection" bullet?
Fully agree with Investor: Bob's reply makes no sense. I've got my new 8600 for a week know and this bloody 'Digital Line Detect' message keeps annoying me. Dell should adress this issue a lot better then just trying to educate its precious customers irrelevant stuff on telephone lines! So please: support team get your act together and tell us how to get rid of this message!
That's a good thought, but no. I had turned off all dial-home options before and still have the same problem. Turning off completely the digitla line is the only solution at this point. Thanks for looking out for us, though.
Don't take this wrong but that would take a phone call to Tech Support as these forums are User to User and if a Dell Moderator offers help it is because of trying to be a nice guy(gal), not as a Tech Support substitute.
The only thing I can think of doing is going into MSCONFIG and unchecking the "digital line detect" entry and see if that makes it go away. If you are not using the dial up modem then it is a pointless app running in the background. Hope that helps.
I use to have the same problem, it started when I installed the drivers for my Logitech optical (no wireless) mouse (Mouseman traveler). when I de-installed the drivers I fixed it and eveything's fine cause the mouse works anyway. even the touchpad couldn't work properly because of logitech drivers and now i reinstalled the touchpad drivers and it's ok. I hope this suggestion may help u all ;)
but now.. I installed a 3Dprogram I really need 4 my job, and the cursor doesn't work properly anymore :_( I'm not sure that this new program caused the problem, I don't know what to do cause the cursor problems on the forum are different. my cursor, wheter i use the touchpad or the mouse, goes the right direction and get the target but it stops for a micro-bit a couple of times during the trip. the movin is not fluid and it's REALLY annoying. pleas, help. thanx bye. eon
Installing the MouseWare version 9.7.9 for my Logitech MX310 mouse caused this problem on my Inspiron 8600.
I have uninstalled the Logitech software, and the problem has gone away.
I am not sure if this a Dell problem, or a Logitech problem.
I get this message on my Latitude D400's. During the last months I have bought 3 D400 to our sales and marketing staff. On one of them I get the "Digital line detect (PBX)" error message.
Following happens: When pressing Undock computer button in Windows XP Pro., and the removing it from the D-port replicator, open the computer and make login the error message pops-up and keeps popping- up again and again... This laptop computer is connected to the company LAN.
Is there any relevance in the message, in this case? Please advice what or how to remove this irritating message.

Bob, you really should not post on how a PBX, key, or hybrid phone system works when you clearly don't understand it at all.
