dimension 2350 running slow

dimension 2350, started running slower last couple of weeks, so i called tech support today. after 1 hour wait, someone in manila, phillipines, walked me through reinstallation cd and recovery.  after, i thought to check norton antivirus, it said autocheck was OFF and then screen disappeared.  every time i click norton icon, screen disappears after about 5 seconds.  thought i would try to uninstall and then reinstall program, then initializing screen froze.  now i don't know if i have antivirus installed or not.  any suggestions?

I would recommend uninstalling Norton Antivirus first, and then reinstalling it from the provided CD media. To uninstall, go to Start | (Settings) | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. Find Norton Antivirus (manufactured by Symantec) in this list, and uninstall it.

Ensure that the LiveUpdate is performed so that you have the latest version of the antivirus program itself, as well as the latest virus definitions.
