Dimension 2400 Network Problem

I have Dimesion 2400 and a week ago the network connectection started to have intermittent connection. I tried ipconfig /release and renew and it didn't help. The message at the right bottom task bar showed network cable unplugged even though I did not touch the connection. Anyone having the same problem & can help?

Thanks.

Have you tried using a different cable?

Yes..it's still having intermittent connections. There were threads about Dimension's integrated NIC. Seems like there is some kind of problem with it, what do you think?

It is always possible for any component of a computer system to fail, but note that I have about 30 Dell computers in my workplace, all with integrated network adapters and none of them have failed, so it is not a general problem.  If you suspect the network adapter and you are still under warranty, call Dell Tech Support and have the motherboard replaced.  If you are not under warranty, go out and buy a $10 PCI 10/100 ethernet network adapter and save yourself a alot of time and frustration.

Yeah..I think that's what I'll do. Go get a new network card. They are very inexpensive these days and will save a lot of headache.

Thanks for your outlook on this.

I had similar problems with the on board NIC on my 2350. I went wireless on it (had the wireless router for other computers anyway). Made my wife happy to lose a cable across a walkway, and works fine....
