Dimension 2400 with integrated Intel Pro/1000 MT problems

Greetings All,

I just purchased a Dell 2400 that appears to have an Intel Pro/1000 MT LOM. I had to install XP Pro on the system and once it was installed I cannot get the NIC to work. I went to Intel's site and downloaded the latest drivers with no luck. When I try to update the driver and click on the .inf file I get a message stating that it cannot install the driver .....

My Service tag is 1MTZG41.

The question I have is whether the Intel Pro/1000 MT LOM is on this motherboard. BTW, I did install the Intel chipset drivers which did not help.

Thanks

After reinstallation of Windows, you need to first install the chipset drivers for your motherboard.  Since the network adapter is integrated on the motherboard, Windows will not be able to properly install the drivers for the network adapter until the chipset drivers are present.   The chipset drivers should be on your Dell Resource CD (along with the network adapter drivers).  If you can't find the chipset drivers, they can be downloaded from:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=3268&devlib=27&category=27&releaseid=R47822

After installing the Intel Chipset Drivers I am still receivng an error when trying to configure the Intel Pro/1000 LOM. When updating the driver I point to the directory where I installed the files for the driver, then an error is displayed that it cannot find any matching drivers for this device and then put the proverbial yellow question mark on the device.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

According to the Dell Support site, the integrated NIC on the 2400 is a Broadcom NIC, not an Intel.  See if the followng drivers get your network adapter going:

Thanks Steve,

You were absolutely correct. The Integrated NIC is a Broadcom 4401. However, the drivers from the Dell site would not load weither. So I went to the Broadcom website, downloaded the latest drivers for XP Pro, and voila, it installed just fine.

Thanks for all your help.

Did you remove the NIC from the device manager and reboot after installing the broadcom drivers?

That is what I had to do before it would find the drivers.
