Dimension 3000 Network Setting problem

Question

Hi,   We recently purchased dell dimesion 3000 with in build XP Home. We are installing XP profressional. We connected lan cable to the network card. But, the system is not responding to it and it's not recognizing network card. But, when we looked at the support CDs we fould all of them are related to Modem Drivers. Where should we get Drivers for network card?   Regards,   Lava

Hi,   I changed the boot seqence and try to boot through the CD. But, it's not recognizing the CD. It' asking to f1 for Retry and F2 for Setup.   Am i doing anything wrong?

Hi,   Thanks for the immediate reply.   We completely removed Windows XP home and formatted drives and installed the XP Professonal. The following CD's we received.   1) Sonic Record Now 7.8 2) Word Perfect 3) Derivers, Dignostics and utilites.     We could not be able to locate those drivers in the 'Derivers, Dignostics and utilites'. Do we need to boot through this CD to install those Chip set drivers? afterwards, How do we install network dirvers?   Regards,   Lava

When you installed XP Pro, did you do a clean install (format the drive and then reinstall Windows)? Did you install the chipset drivers as the frist device drivers after the installation? Windows will not recognize the integrated ethernet device (and any other device integrated on the motherboard) until the chipset drivers are installed. If you can't locate these drivers on your Resource CD, you can download them from Here for the chipset drivers and Here for the ethernet network drivers.

If you boot to the Drivers and Utilities CD, you should be able to install both the chipset drivers and the network drivers from that disk. Again, the chipset drivers have to be the first drivers installed. If you choose to download the files from the links in my previous reply, just copy the files to a location on your hard drive and run the files from there to install the drivers - again, chipset drivers first.

Perhaps the Drivers and Utilities CD is not bootable. Try booting to Windows and Installing the Drivers & Utilities CD. Dell has not published the reinstall guides for the 3000 on their web site, but the reinstall guides for the 2400 should be the same. These can be found Here.

Hi,   I have downloaded those files and burned them on to a CD and extracted files and run setup. It  has copied drivers into the system. I rebooted the system. But, still it's not recognizing the hardware.(Ethernet card)..   what would be the problem?   Regards,   Lava

You did install the chipset drivers first, didn't you? Try going into Device Manager and removing the network network device and the problem device if it is listed. Reboot and see if it now installs the proper drivers. Since the chipset drivers always need to be installed first, immeediately after reinstalling Windows, everything might now be confused because you didn't follow the proper sequence.

Hi,   i removed the controller and restarted the system agian. It was asking me to select the path to pick up the dirvers.  I gave the patch. But, it could not be able to identify them. It was again asking me to serach internet to get those drivers.   I also asked it to search local driver and pick it up. But, this effort also went into vain.   Regards,   Lava kumar

Since this all started when you reinstalled Windows without first installing the chipset drivers, my advice at this point would be to reinstall again and then load the drivers CD, install the chipset drivers and proceed from there. Sorry I can't be of more help.
