Dimension 4700 ethernet problem

Hey, I have a Dell 4700 and after I reformatted the computer the Ethernet no longer worked. I wanted to set it up with DSL that I had before I reformatted the computer but the DSL installation stuff says that I have no modem or connection to the internet so I cannot set it up. I have an wireless setup for my laptops and before I just plugged my computer into that through the Ethernet and it worked just fine.

I got my 4700 last Dec from Dell and it came with everything loaded on it. Am I missing something that came on the computer that they didn't send a disk to reinstall it or something?

If anyone has any help for me that would be awesome~
James

Ps. This is my first time on the support forum, is this the right place to ask this?

You are in the right place and welcome aboard.  You probably didn't reinstall the Chip Set drivers which actually are the one thing you need to make all the other drivers work. You can find those on your Resource Cd or from the Product Support>Downloads Sections above.  Try that and post back.

Ok, I did what you said to do installing the chip set drivers and it didn’t seem to do anything different.

The computer recognizes the Ethernet but it won’t let me install it. It can’t find anything to install the Ethernet Controller with.

I’m getting really lost with it so all try to tell you everything again.

I have Verizon DSL. And I use SMC to set up a wireless for my laptops. I before plugged my Eithernet into it and installed the Verizon DSL and it just worked fine. Now I’m really lost. If you have any more ideas PLEASE help me.
