Director Player Error (when trying to install modem)

I have just reinstalled windows 2000, following a Dell representative's instructions on reformatting the hard drive etc.
The problem i am now faced with is connecting to the net !
Nothing will detect my modem settings, not even inserting the modem cd which came with the system.

If i install the modem cd, and auto run it....i get a message saying "director player error"
Followed by "This application cannot run with the current monitor depth"

Can anyone help ?

You must first install your system device drivers in the following preferred order:

  1. Intel Chipset

  2. Nvidia GeForce2 GTS Ultra video adapter

  3. Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card
You may then try reinstalling your modem drivers from the CD you mentioned. I would also recommend that you install the latest Service Pack for Windows 2000 via Windows Update once the above drivers have been installed.

Thanks

That has sorted the problem.....

however the following mesdsage keeps popping up after windows has been started svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.  You will need to restart the program.  An error log is being created

Any comments ?

Ensure that your antivirus software has been fully updated with the most recent virus and worm definitions, and perform a complete system scan. If this does not resolve the error, you may also need to run an excess software removal tool on your system such as AdAware or SpyBot.
