Connecting your system directly to a broadband internet connection is not advisable without some sort of hardware or software firewall protection, such as ZoneAlarm software or a home gateway/router hardware device. You may have contracted a worm, virus, or installed software that contains malware that could be causing this problem.

Ensure that your antivirus software has been fully updated with the most recent virus and worm definitions, and perform a complete system scan. If this does not resolve the error, you may also need to run an excess software removal tool on your system such as AdAware or SpyBot.

I have Zone Alarm, the latest version of Norton Antivirus which includes Spam, Adware and Mallware protection and I have Adware as well. The reason that we use the disable icon is because we are unsure if whether we can be hacked by outside systems while we close the computer with the Cnet WL200 connection still open. Does Zone Alarm protect you when you have shut down?

If you mean "when the system is powered off," the system is not accessible at all from the outside. Neither Windows XP nor ZoneAlarm have any presence at all when the computer is completely shut down.
