DNS problem

Hello All

I have IP connectivity (can ping local devices) but DNS does not work (no web access)

I have tried uninstalling NIC (and TCP/IP) and reinstalling, no luck

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Some further is required:

This is a pc belonging to a friend. Her 13-yr old son pretty much destroyed the thing surfing porn sites...malware, adware, you name it. Ran Ad-Aware and installed new version of Anti-virus to eliminate thousands of bad things.

Everything appears to be working ok now except the internet connectivity.

If you try to uninstall TCP/IP in the normal method, you cannot since Uninstall is "grayed-out" (unavailable). Network connection is also listed as "Local Area Connection 4", leading me to believe that registry contains a lot of garbage I'd like to get rid of (1,2+3)

I've also tried using registry editor, following directions from Microsoft KB. Although I was able to successfully uninstall the NIC and the proper winsock keys, etc (I know because upon reboot, new hardware, the NIC, was found and TCP/IP automaticall reinstalled) still nothing worked and uninstall was still grayed out. The grayed out status leads me to believe that certain keys in the registry are read-only?

It's time for a clean wipe and re-install.
