Do I have a NIC card?

I have a Dell Dimension XPS T450.  The Local Area Connection says "SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1211TX).  However, whenever I connect my DSL or Cable Internet connection to this computer, it says 0 packets sent and received and the ip addres is 192.168.114.239.  If not the NIC card, is there any other problem any else has experienced?

I also tried ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and got the following message.

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

The following error occurred when renewing adapter Local Aarea Connection: DHCP Server unreachable

Check your TCP/IP properties to make sure that the LAN connection is set to receive IP and DNS server addresses automatically.

You have Cable and DSL??  Are you using a router?

Please indicate your type of modem, and type of internet service. is it cable or dsl. if it's dsl, we have to determine if you are using pppoe or dhcp authentication on your ISP.

I have both Cable and DSL.  I'm in the process of switching from Cable to DSL so that's why I have both.  Cable never worked so now I'm trying with DSL.  In any case, I went to Walmart and got the NC100 Network Everywhere Network Adapter, installed it and now I'm surfing the Internet on my Dell.  I guess I really didn't have a NIC.

Thanks all.
