Do I have what I need for wireless network?

We are trying to set up our 2 dell dimension computers for wireless connection.
We have a dell dimension 4100 with windows XP and a dell dimension E510 with windows XP. The Dell dimension E510 has the dell wireless USB Adapter inteegrated, intel pro 100 M PCI NIC Card.

The dimension 4100 has a D-Link 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (I believe this is what needs to be changed).

We purchased a Linksys Wireless - G Broadband Router & our DSL connection is through Comcast.

After doing the set-up it says we have an excellent connection - but we cannot get internet access.

What are we doing wrong? Thank you.

Also - my daughter has a laptop that she uses at college and has no problem with wireless connection. However, she can not get it to work with our system.

Although it is confusing because you really haven't said what is connecting to what and the connections are made, so long as the Dimension 4100 is connecting to the router through its etherent port and the dsl modem is connect to the router by ethernet through the router's WAN port, then everything should work.  Please explain exactly how everything is connected (or attempting to connect) and perhaps we can be of more help.

The main system is the new one - the Dell Dimension E510.
We have the Comcast modem connected to this system. Our comcast cable modem is connected via ethernet to the internet port of the Linksys wireless-G router and our Linksys router is connected via ethernet to the Dell Dimension E510 computer tower.

So, are you trying to connect the 4100 through wireless or through ethernet?  If through wireless, you need either a USB wireless network adpater or a PCI wireless wireless network adatper.  As for your daughter's computer, is it trying to connect through wireless?  If so, does it see your wireless network?  Have you configured any of the security settings on the wireless router?  If so, temporarily disable them until all computers that you trying to connect through wireless are able to do so.  Then, when you are sure things are working, re-enable the security settings and configure each computer to connect with the proper security settings.

Thank you for your input. I got the 3 computers communicating. The laptop did not work at first because my son didn't name the group or something like that. I purchased a wireless PCI adapter for the old computer and now everyone is connected to the internet.

Dear CherAnn,

I work with networks and I wanted to try to see how I might be able to help you. Let me get this straight so I can see what you can do to fix it.

Hardware:

Dell Dimension 4100 - D-Link 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter

Dell Dimension E510-  Dell Wireless USB Adapter, Intel Pro 100 M PCI NIC Card

I am sorry, I could not verify the Dimension 4100 computer so I cannot fix this problem.

Also, I cannot verify the server or alternate sharing Internet stuff so I am sorry.

Sincerely,

CompuNetHelp

Server,

If you can't help, why are you even bothering to answer this nearly 5 month old post that has already been answered?
