Does the Intel PROSet/Wireless utility need to be installed?

I have an Inspiron 9300 with a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG minicard. I have Windows XP Pro SP2 installed and let Windows's Wireless Zero Configuration handle my wireless connection.

My question is do I need to have the Intel PROSet/Wireles Software installed? I've disabled all the services that come with it and have still had no problems connecting. Removing it would keep 7 extra programs (Dot1XCfg.exe, EvtEng.exe, iFrmewkr.exe, RegSvr.exe, ZcfgSvc.exe, S24EvMon.exe and WLKEEPER.exe), which take up around 65 MB of memory, from running on my machine.

If the programs aren't doing anything there's no reason to keep them running and wasting memory.

Has anyone uninstalled the software without issues?

I figured I'd do a uninstall and see what happened, but when I went to uninstall it popup up a menu with "remove, reinstall or modify". I decided to choose modify and I told it to remove the application (2nd checkbox), but leave the drivers installed.

Everything seems to be working fine and I have 7 less programs running all the time. :)
