doesnt connect to internet(doesnt detect LAN connection)doesnt read dvd/cd
its a friends dimension E310..3 months ago,it stopped working connecting to the internet.i noticed when u plug in a working LAN connector,it stays disconnected (icon on lower right shows x mark).it also doesnt read dvds/cd's so cant load kapersky software.tried system restore ( backtracked to dec 8, 2008) but still doesnt help....is this a virus thing or just driver update or hardware failure.....
ur help will be greatly appreciated

Well ...to start with u can try another system restore to a date earlier than 8 dec. 2008.
2. Check for n/w adapter state. It might be disabled due to the presence of a virus or may not be loaded ( due to corrupt n/w drivers in that case u can try reloading the drivers for ur LAN connector).
3. If u do have an external CD/DVD rom try using that.
4. With info i have it looks like a h/w failure but u need to perform the above steps to ascertain that.

tnx for the advice.had the hard drive reformatted but still wouldnt recognize LAN connection . i went to a friends house and tried to put the RJ45 (LAN) connection and it works.why is such?can somebody pls give advice......my house's connection works so i dont know what to tell..........
