I connect to the internet by means of a cable modem. If I go to the following web site:
and click on the download button, this is downloading a 98.9 MB file with a speed of 25 to 27 KB per second speed. I have mcafee internet security suite 2006, a red and gray M by the system clock. I would think on a cable modem, you could download a 98.9 MB file with a speed of a few hundred kbs per second. Maybe something in my mcafee software is causing the slowdown.

How long does the speed test take to complete?

There is a lot of overhead involved in downloading files, not to mention the speed and capacity of all servers between you and the download site.  What speed do you expect and what speed are you getting.

Go to the following site - http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ , choose a server and run the speed test.  How does the download speed compare with what your cable internet provider advertises?  For example my cable provider advertises 6,000 kbps.  When I run the speed test at speakeasy, I usually get between 5,700 and 5,900, not enough difference to be concerned about.

No more than 20 to 30 seconds.

or try speedtest.net since this will allow you to test international servers and local ones takes about 15-20sec to do... also you might want to try something like getright which allows multiple connections on any downloaded file..

with a speed like that obviously the server you are downloading off doesn't have the bandwidth for you to download at full speed

probably, because a lot of people are downloading files from their servers... ie they dont have unlimited bandwidth to give ever downloader maximum download speeds... i would try using getright though it should help

So if I go to the following link:
why is my download speed slow, even though on the speed test website, my download and upload speed was quite fast?
