You can find the Service Tag on the underside of a notebook, but you don't need to know the service tag to download updates from Dell - you can select your Dell computer model from a list.

Drivers and software for wireless network adapters are listed under Network Drivers category.

Alternative, since you have an Intel adapter, you can also see if there is a generic version from Intel (often newer than Dell's release): http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx?lang=eng

Hanna,

This will not answer you specifically but I think you are asking "what is downloading and how do I do it?"

When connected to the internet, every time you connect to a website, you are "downloading" that website page to view on your computer. It all happens without you knowing it.

When you download a file as the other poster is saying, things are a little different.

If you click a download link, a file will be transferred to your computer. You will next be asked if you want to 'Run" the file or 'Save" it to your hard drive. You can choose "Run" if you want to finish the job now, or "Save" if you want to finish it later, or if you want a copy of the file saved to you computer.

The next step is to install what you have downloaded. This is where most people new to computers go wrong. They download, but do not install. Or, They download and Save and want to install later but can't find the downloaded file on their computer.

Most people I know who are new at this, download and save the file to their desktop. They write down the name of the file so they can find it on their desktop.

Next, they click the file on the desktop and install it.

I hope this helps a little and I hope I have not misunderstood  your statement "I am unable to download an update because i don't know any thing about computers".

Write back and someone will help you further.

John

This is my preferred method of downloading drivers, programs, updates etc. Create a file called Program Downloads in My Documents.

Always SAVE the file to this folder and do not just download to run. It will ask you where you want to save it so look for this new folder that you created and make sure that it is in indicated in the Save dialogue box of the window

This has two advantages; the first is that you can try it to install it again if it fails, without having to go through the download process again. Secondly you can install when you are offline and can disable your anti-virus safely and have no other programs running like AOL for example.

Before you double click the file to install ensure that you have NO other programs running and disable your anti-virus. It is also a good idea to create a restore point to be on the safe side if you are a novice.

I hope that this is of some help but if you get stuck don't hesitate to ask. Everybody here was a beginner once!
