Drivers for the WIndows XP X64 Based Operating System.

Hi!

I received my new XPS 600 with the Windows XP Pro X64 based operating system Monday and finally got the time to set it up yesterday. I do have a situation I need help with though.

I immediately ran out to purchase an ethernet card so I could go online, (I have cable broadband). I purchased a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 LAN Card PCI Adapter (model no. LNE 100TX).

To make a long story short, after many failed attempts to install the driver(s) I contacted Linksys only to be told that they don't have the 64 bit driver yet that supports the operating system.

Is there a card w/driver available that does support the Windows XP X64 based operating system? Just what are my options? Keep in mind that my computer lingo is very limited, so be gentle. :smileyhappy:

Thanks,
Gary

Did your computer not come with a networking port installed? I thought ALL their computers did, right down to the low-end 2400 series. Also, you might get more responses posting this in the Network forum.

I didn't know Dell was supporting the windows 64 OS on the Dimension line.  Must be something brand new.  Last I've seen on the hardware forums is that Dell doesn't support it.

There is a X64 software section on the forum.  You could post your question there.

Why would you go buy a networking card when you have a built-in ethernet port on the motherboard?

Because I was ignorant and realized it after the fact... :smileymad:
