DSL and Dial-Up

I'm about to go to DSL with my Dimension 4300.  Will I have any problems if I connect the DSL modem to my Ethernet PCI NIC, and keep the dial-up ISP connected through my internal modem,?

Since you will most likely want to connect through dsl instead of dialup, open Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Internet Options, then on the connections tab, make sure the box next to "Never dial a connection is checked".   That way you will always connect through your network card and dsl modem.   If you ever need to use dialup, you can go back in and check the box.

Also, if you ever need to send or receive a fax via the PC you will still need the analog telephone line connected to the modem. You can't fax via DSL.

Thanks to both of you for the tips.  I'll be installing the DSL software in a couple of days - kind of think both of your alerts might not be covered in the DSL hands-on instructions (I'll get the installation CD when the Modem is delivered).  I'll be dropping my dial-up ISP once I'm sure the switchover has gone well. Yeah, I do fax on rare occasions, so particularly glad to have that heads-up;  now I'll figure on adding a phone jack splitter to keep that modem available.
The DSL host offers McAfee antivirus and firewall as part of their folio- I currently use ZoneAlarm AV and firewall.  I'm wondering out loud how I should handle that - uninstall Zonealarm before downloading McAfee or what.  Any ideas there?

If your ZoneAlarm AV and firewall  software, is up to date continue using it.
