DTM 1184 connection

After spending hours with Dell tech support to get my wireless connection functional I still need a tweak to make it more solid.  It goes from excellent connection to no connection several times every few minutes.  Is there some adjustment to fix this?  I use a cable modem connection to a Dell True Mobile 1184 to a DTM 1300 built in wireless card in my Inspiron 5100.

Do you have any 2.4 Ghz wireless telephones or microwave ovens.  These can interfere with the wirelss network, but can sometimes be eliminated by careful selection of the channels used by your network.

You have to experiment to find what works.  Do a search on google.com, there is a lot of information out there that should help you, although, it is all a bit discouraging since everything seems to depend on the exact models of the telephones and netoworking equipment.

It's currently set at channel six.  How do I know which channel is best?

I am also having the interrupt problem with my setup. I have the Inspiron 8500 with the dual band DTM 1400 and the DTM 1184. Dell ech told me that the phone might interfere with the signal. I was wondering if I could be to close to the router?

How to you change the channel on the 1184?

Log into the 1184 and there will be a page somewhere to change it.  Not really explicit but I don't have an 1184 and every router is different.

I moved my router away from my computer, it is in the same room but about 10-12 feet between them now. I have not had any interrupt problems since.

Most interesting - first I've seen this solution posted - must be the computer was radiating enough energy to interfere with the router reception!

[Edit] I'm curious - does your computer have a 2.4ghz cpu?

Yes I do have a 2.4. I thought that I might be getting some kind of feed back or something. Just a lucky guess. I have not had any interrupt or other problems since moving it.

The 2.4ghz clock in the computer was radiating enough rf energy to block the 2.4ghz router.  Makes me wonder how many other wireless problems (dropping connections, etc.) are because of this effect?!
