The connector you want is thwe RJ11 jack. It is the smaller of the 2. The other 1 is a RJ45, it is for Ethernet (Networking).

Hi!  thanks for trying to help!  Isn't it the little up and down 'plug' ...the only one on the whole back of the laptop that runs paralel??  I KNOW that's where it's supposed to go ( I think...) and there's NO WAY it's gonna fit!!  Makes no sense at all....I just unplugged it from one room and moved it to the kitchen...went to "connect" again...and it's like someone came in the night and "zapped" the little plug!!???  Any ideas?  thanks

Right connector here,  it only has 2 gold fingers inside, vs the 8 in the RJ-45 connector.
