DW1501 for connecting 5Ghz network
Hi, there!
I bought my Studio 1558 in the State two years ago. Recently, my workplace built 5Ghz network for getting faster speeds.
I found that my laptop could connect to 2.4Ghz ('g') network only. It didn't find 5Ghz ('n') network.
I was confused because I thought DW1501 is capable of supporting 5Ghz band.
After I found the old post on Dell Community, I realized I was misinformed by Dell's document a long time ago.
Due to international warranty transfer, I gave China Dell a call and requested for another wireless card that can handle 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network.
They told me that they can do nothing except sending the replacement for the faulty parts.
I tried to convince them that I was misinformed by document. They asked me to prove where the misinformation is on Dell's website.
I gave them a link of the post I found. They told me that the post on Dell Community is not qualified as a proof.
The only conclusion they can get from the post is "Staff claim that DW1501 is unable to see 5Ghz. That's it."
Even though I was annoyed by his answer (I doubt whether he read the thread), I just replied I would contact U.S. Dell for further helps.
That's why this post is here. Any help will be appreciated!

Hi Donging,
I see that you are right now based in china. I’d like to know if you have migrated to china or you are in china for short while. If you are staying for short while what is the duration.
I have added you as my friend on the community forum. Please send me a private message with the system service tag, so that I could assist you further.

@ Ravi
Thanks for your reply.
I have migrated to Taiwan for quite a while. China Dell is in charge of the warranty support for Taiwan. That's why I gave them a call. In fact, I have requested for the technical support via Twitter last Friday. I didn't get any further response yet.

Hi Donging,
The Dell wireless 1501 only sees and connects to 2.4 GHz ‘n’ network. It will not be able to see and connect to 5 GHz ‘n’ network.
For connecting to 5 GHz ‘n’ network you will have to purchase ‘n’ card which can connect to 5GHz.
Example: Dell Wireless 1520
Please reply for any queries.

Hi Ravi,
I knew DW1501 is unable to see and connect to 5 GHz ‘n’ network already.
I was misinformed by the wrong documents on Dell website when I bought my laptop.
Now, I have to purchase ‘n’ card which can connect to 5GHz because it is my fault ?

Hi Donging,
'Dell community forum’ website is a forum wherein Dell customers ask questions or give feedback about Dell and Dell products. The Forum cannot be taken as proof that Dell W1501 supports 5GHz network ‘n’ network.
Please refer to the ‘Radio Characteristics’ section in the link below for specifications of the Dell W1501 card.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi Ravi,
I knew DW1501 doesn't support 5GHz network ‘n’ network before I made a new post.
What I concerned is there were incorrect contents in the previous specifications of the DW1501 card. I was mislead by these documents when I configured my laptop. I think Dell should take the responsibility for the customers who are affected by this matter. The incorrect information made them to believe their card is capable of supporting 5Ghz network.
My request is sending the wireless card that is capable of supporting 5Ghz network to me. Please don't rotate the fact DW1501 doesn't supports 5GHz network ‘n’ network. (I knew already. Thanks!) The real point is that incorrect information provided by Dell's website made customers to do the wrong decision.
Do I say clear?

Donging,
There are many wireless adapters/routers out there that state that they're wireless N. Just because they state they're wireless N, does NOT mean they operate on 5.0GHz. They offer dual streams that give them fast wireless speeds, so they qualify as wireless N.
You have to be very careful to make sure the equipment works on 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz.
It's stated in the article...
