DWLAN Utility

My Laptop N5110 running Win7 Home 64 bit takes forever or not at all to reconnect to internet after sleep and/or hibernate. The wireless is set to Maximum Performance and the computer is not allowed to shutdown wireless to save power. I think it's the Dell DWLAN utility that serves no useful purpose. However, if I uninstall it I lose all connects because the Network Controller folder cannot be found. Can I download just the drivers and not all the extra muck for this laptop someplace or is there a workaround to get Windows 7 OS to take over wireless duties once the Dell utility is uninstalled? I've gotten really frustrated. Everything on the web about this is for an older version of the utility that no longer applies. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Someone else must have run into this problem. The wireless card is a Broadcom 1701 b/g/n. Thank you.

Hi surferbob644,

I am sorry to hear that the Inspiron N5110 takes a lot of time to connect to the Internet after resuming from Sleep or Hibernate. The Dell utility is included with the driver and the driver cannot be downloaded separately. You can try uninstalling the driver along with the utility and install the drivers from Device Manager from Windows by connecting to the Internet using a wired connection.

Please follow the steps provided below to install/update driver from Device Manager in Windows 7:

1. Right click on "Computer" and then on "Manage" to open "Computer Management".
2. Click on "Device Manager".
3. The wireless card would be listed under "Other Device" with a Yellow exclamation mark if the driver is not installed on in "Network Adapter" if it is installed.
4. Right click on the device and click on "Update Driver Software".
5. On the next page, select "Search automatically for updated driver software".
6. Windows will search online and install the compatible drivers automatically.

Please reply to this message if you need further assistance.

Thanks Rajath N for responding so quickly and your solution I think is sound; however, now the DW Wlan Utility won't uninstall due to an error code ( c:\build\KIRIN_REL_5_100_82_96\win_external_wl\src\tools\install\app\bcmwls\Update.cpp 59) which I'm sure is because I restored the utility after uninstalling thru Windows System Restore. I've tried Safe Mode and got the same error code. I tried reinstalling the entire DW Wlan Utility via Dell but the same message comes up. How can I get rid of the utility now. By the way my laptop is a N4110 (14r), my mistake. Thanks again for your help. - Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your reply and apologize for the delay in responding to your request. I suggest you to download the Guru3D – Driver Sweeper and uninstall the DWLAN software from the Safe Mode.  You can download the software from the following link:
