If the PC has the lastest Windows XP "security" updates (last Tuesday) there was one that changed how Active X, including Macromedia Flash is handled and may be causing the problem.  If this is the case, uninstall all the Tuesday updates (or Wednesday or whenever they were installed) and then see if you can install the program (then reinstall them).  If it's not the Windows updates, it's a Verizon problem - typical of vendors, they either don't know or don't want to find out what is the problem and tell the customer it's someone else's problem and then the customer is left holding the bag trying to find or figure out what really is the problem.

(BTW, I don't work for Dell, but I used to manage a hardware help desk).

Worked after you found a tech that would really help.  Sadly, typical of many "tech support" operations.

An example of bad programming at its worst.

Background
The Verizon CD "checks" to see if Adobe Flash Player is installed--it does so merely by checking the C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\ folder for the presence of "flash.ocx"

If you've got a new-ish computer or have installed the latest version of Flash, your folder will [most likely] contain flash9b.ocx.  (the Verizon CD doesn't recognize this as the Flash player)

So when Verizon CD doesn't "find" flash.ocx, it attempts to install it--it first copies its version of flash.ocx into the folder, then errors out (Self-Registration Error: C:\WINDOWS\system32\MacroMed\Flash\Flash.ocx ) when it can't install its version of Flash over the top of your newer version.

How to fix?
Delete flash.ocx from C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\ (planted there by the Verizon CD). Next make a copy of flash9b.ocx that's in the folder, and then rename the copy to "flash.ocx"

This will fool the Verizon installer into leaving your system alone--you'll be good to go. This fix is for WinXP--don't know if it does the same thing with Vista, but it very well could.

Cheers,
AS
