Try disabling all pop-up blockers.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this sooner.

I tried disabling the popup blockers, but it did not resolve the problem.

Can you think of anything else that might work?

I appreciate your help.

My Internet security setting is set at medium already.

I will try adding the site to the Trusted Sites list and I'll let you know if it works.

I suggest your Internet security setting may be too high. look in INTERNET SETTINGS in CONTROL PANEL, and lower the setting to medium. You could also try adding the site to your list of TRUSTED SITES - as long as you do!

I tried putting aetv on the Trusted Sites list, but it still didn't work.

I did notice what I think may be the problem though.

When I typed in the address it wasn't accepted because it did not have an "s" in it; as in https://.

To me it seems that it should not matter. How have others on the A&E boards been able to access use of the site?

Anyway, I guess that as long as A&E doesn't change their address to include the "s" I won't be able to make use of their board.

Thank you for your suggestions. I probably wouldn't have found out about that https://, thing if it wasn't for you.

Their URL is www.aetv.com.

I know I made the same mistake the first time I tried to get to their website.

A&E is the Arts & Entertainment network. They have a lot of TV shows, old and new. I guess you don't get that station where you live, since you don't know what it is. Anyway, their correct URL is above.

Hmmm, Now I'm puzzled. I have absolutely no idea what A&E.com is but I've just tried it and I can't find it. the error message I got suggests that it does not exist! I don't have any problem with any other website I want. Dead end?

I think I might have confused you along the way, I'm sorry if I did.

I can get on the website with no trouble at all.

But when I registered to join A&E discussion board that's when the trouble starts.

I go through the registration process just fine, but then they send me an email to confirm the registration. With that I am told to click onto a link that they provide in the email.

I click on the link and that's when it all goes down the drain. As soon as I click that stinken link I get the 404 message.

I've tried everything I can think of to try to get around it but so far nothing works.

I even sent an email to A&E technical help but they don't seem to know what to do about it.

I've never had any problems joining any other discussion boards. It's just that one that really gets my goat.

I hate to give up on anything but I might not have any other choice.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Now I'm even MORE puzzled! Correct URL loaded INSTANTLY, Checked properties include nothing unusual, no security certificates, etc. My security setting are very high but there was no delay at all - opened webpage in about 0.5 seconds.

I can only think there is something amiss with your firewall, can you check that you have permitted the URL? I'm not certain, but I think the only time I get a 404 error is if the website is too busy, and that is very very rare. You could perhaps ask your ISP for help as I am fairly certain this is NOT a Dell problem as such.

I'm sorry if I'm upsetting you. I never said that it was anyones fault!

I wrote the email to A&E to see if they could help, that's all. And yes, I did put their information in my allowed list in the address book from the ISP and with the Firewall list.

Nothing works with the A&E board.

Aha, now I understand! Well, apart from the absolutely obvious it MUSt be their fault, not yours!

The absolutely obvious is to make sure that you have enabled links in emails - for instance, I use AOL and by default links and images in emails are DISABLED for security unless I change that - apart from that I'm stumped!

Like I said, must be their fault, email them and tell them, then go somewhere else!

Ah, two nations divided by a common language (to quote Winston Churchill)!

I'm not remotely upset or annoyed and I'm sorry if you got that impression - what I meant was that the problem (or is that "challenge" in politically correct terms) does not seem to be with your PC or system but with the site to which you are trying to connect. That being the case, if they want your patronage they should sort it out. OK?

Thank you for clearing that up. I guess I've been getting a little touchy on the subject. Anyway, I'm glad you weren't getting annoyed with me!

I just wish I knew if anyone else is having a problem with that site and why A&E isn't doing anything to clear up the problem.

Maybe they don't want my patronage, oh well, it's their loss!

Thanks again, I feel much better knowing I didn't get on your nerves. Sometimes I have that effect on people.

Have a great day! :smileyhappy:

Here is some information on the 404 Error. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/404_error

You might try copying the URL and just pasting it in a separate web browser other than that the problem might be with with the server at A&E TV not recognizing the URL.

Also the "s" in an https format is very important and indicates that there is an encryption being used with the Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Here is more information on https . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Https

Hopefully this will help resolve your problem with accessing the site. You might also want to re-register your DLL files according to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326155.
