You probably have not installed the chipset drivers for your motherboard (geez, I must type this same line 20 times a day in these forums).   The chipset drivers need to be the first drivers installed after the reinstallation of Windows XP.  Once the chipset drivers are installed, you can then install the drivers for all other devices that are integrated on the motherboard, such the ethernet network adapter drivers, the video drivers, the modem drivers, etc.  For details on installation of these drivers on your system, see the following and look under "Install Hardware Drivers":

i have the same problem, and i followed your advice and the advice in the dell articles you referred to.  it solved some of my problems, such as video card, but it did not solve the problem with the ethernet card.  i should note that i experienced a couple of differences from what the instructions in the dell articles suggested.  one, my ethernet card is listed on the device manager under "network," not under "other."  also, contrary to what the article stated, the driver installation did begin on its own, and i did not have to go to sys mgr to update (although i tried that too.)  however, i still get error message that says "unable to connect to CCD process" when i try to start my SBC DSL connection manager. any more ideas?   i appreciate anything you can suggest.
