Ethernet Card not found

Hi all - I have a Dell Dimension 4600c and recently had to reinstall XP Professional.

I My internet access is via Cable modem. Problem is the machine is not recognizing the ethernet card as being there.

How do I make that happen?

I am thinking of removing the card and booting the machine. Shut it down, add the card and rebooting.

Any help will be appreciated....

go to support.dell.com and download the network drivers for you specific computer.  You will need to do this from a computer that can access the net (obviously).  Install the drivers on the computer then be able to find the NIC.

Your problem is that you did not install the ChipSet driver first.  Followed by the video, audio, ethernet and the rest.

To find and download the drivers for your system, scroll down the page on click on
"Drivers and Downloads". Then enter your Service Tag or model number of your computer.
Select your operating system and then download the drivers that you need.
