I am asking on here since I can't ever get anyone from dell to come on the phone and talk on the phone support option. I've been on hold for 25+ minutes several times and noone come on to take me off hold. I'm just wondering how I know if my card is good enough or if I might need another card?

An ethernet network adapter card is a pretty standard device.  I see no reason why the card would not meet the requirements, but you have not stated what these requirements are.

The college correspondence just said the computer should have an ethernet card. I didn't know if the 10/100 network card from Dell covered that, or if a different card was needed for the ethernet requirement. How many different kinds of cards are there???

There are basically 3 different types of ethernet cards - 10, 10/100, and 10/100/1000.  Yours will be just fine.
