Ethernet Connection is not Working

Question

I have an XPS 400 and use it primarily for gaming.  A year ago, I used the Ethernet connection, but for the past year I have been using a wireless connection.  Last night, I tried using an eathernet connection again, and it's not working.  In device manager, my Intel(r) pro/pl network connection says that is is working properly, however, dispite being properly connected to the router, the LANconnection icon on my task bar says that a network cable is unplugged. Looking on the back of my computer where the ethernet cable plugs into, there is a constant orange light on the bottom, and a flashing yellow light on top.  I tried clicking 'Update Driver' but is says that I have the most up to date driver, being '9.0.15.0' and the driver date says 3/31/2005.  My wireless connection is working, that's how I'm posting this, however, I would prefer to use the LAN connection.

Power off the ISP modem/router and also power off any wireless router you're using, for 30 seconds. Plug the ethernet cable into the computer and also shut down the computer.

Power on the ISP modem/router first. Now power on the Wireless router, if any. Now turn on the computer.

Can you connect?
