Ethernet Connection Problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m running XP Professional. Intermittently my internet connection disappears. The ethernet connection disappears from my network properties, the light to the ethernet connection disappears and it's like there's nothing connected at all. Sometimes the I have connectivity for awhile before it disappears but then suddenly I get a massive computer slowdown and then the connection goes out. I've seen other users mention this problem but have not seen solutions.

Thanks

I've tried changing the cable and the internet connection works fine for others just not me any my Dell. So I definitely know it's not the connection itself rather something with my laptop.

Have you checked the network cable and made sure that it is not coming in loose the the RJ45 jack?  Have you tried a different network cable?

Is it the connector itself?  i.e. if you wiggle the cable in the socket on the computer can you reproduce the problem - making in the link light on the computer go on and off?

I gave it a try and wiggling or otherwise moving the socket around doesn't recreate the problem when the connection seems to be working and doesn't solve the problem when it is not.

It could be a problem with the network adapter itself or the connector on the motherboard.  In either case, it would require a motherboard replacement.  If your computer is still under warranty, you need to call Dell Tech Support and get the process started.

My drivers are fully up to date. This problem is very perplexing.
