Go into your BIOS setup program and make sure that the integrated network adapter is enabled.

Hi the F2 key immediately after you restart your computer to get into the BIOS setup program.

Does the ethernet network adapter show up in Device Manager when you expand the listing for Network Adapters?

Yes, it does but it's yellow with a question mark.

On a computer with an internet connection, download the drivers for your network adapter from thje following site:
 
 
Copy the downloaded file to removal media then copy it to the hard drive on your Inspiron 1100.  Run the file from there to install the drivers.
