I HAVE YELLOW ? NEXT TO MY DEVICE MANAGER WITH YELLOW ? ETHERNET CONTROLLER AND MS BUS CONTOLLER. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? IS IT THE DRIVERS THAT NEED INSTALLING. CAN NOT FIND DRIVERS ON RESOURCE CD. I HAVE A DIMENSION 4550 AND RUNNING WINDOWS XP. OH AND WHY HAS MY @ BUTTON MOVED TO SHIFT 2.

It also looks like your CAPS LOCK key is stuck.  Did you just reinstall Windows XP?  If so, you need to install the chipset drivers to get rid of the SM Bus controller problem an your network drivers.  These should be on the Dell Resouce CD, but you can also download them at:

As for your keyboard problems, try installing the drivers for your keyboard (they are model specific, so I can't point you to a direct link).  Otherwise post your question regarding the keyboard on the Dimension -  Keyboard/Mouse forum.

The "moved" characters are because the wrong keyboard is defined.  Looks like your system is expecting a USA keyboard when you are using a non US keyboard.

Go to Control Panel then "Regional and Language options".  Click on the "Languages" tab.  In the section "Text Services and Input languages" click on the "Details" button. In the "Settings" tab make check that you have the correct keyboard available, if not then click on "add" and select the keyboard.  Then in the Default section select the keyboard to be used as default.

(why was this made so complex in XP? in win9x it was all under the keyboard in the control panel)

Are you still running Windows 98? If so, then the driver Here should work.

lauramaehigh,

No, the drivers you may need depend on which network card you have and the version of Windows you are running. Provide that information and we can help.
